How National Service Can Advance the Mission, Goals, and Capacity of Nonprofits - Tuesday, December 11, 2018, noon - 1:15pm

This webinar is the third installment of a three-part series on how service can promote education attainment, workforce development, and a career pathway for the nonprofit workforce. You can view the on-demand recording of parts 1 and 2 HERE

The nonprofit sector plays an indispensable role in society and is key to thriving communities. However, in an era of constant change, growing needs, and uncertain resources, nonprofits often have to think creatively about how to build their organizational capacity. Capacity can be volunteer management, fund development, outreach and promotion, collaboration, organizational or program development, etc. And it’s not just about the capacity of today — it’s about the nonprofit’s ability to deliver its mission effectively in the future. The nonprofit sector, especially smaller organizations, sometimes lack the means to do this. Does this sound familiar?

Service Year Alliance believes one solution to increasing the long-term capacity of a nonprofit organization is through the creation of a service year program. Service year positions can significantly increase the capacity of nonprofit organizations across the country by: providing access to committed, talented young adults; providing those young adults with the tools & support they need not only to serve effectively for one year but to help build lasting systems and best practices; and by training a new generation of skilled nonprofit practitioners. The sustained, full-time, year-long engagement of a young adult can jumpstart the capacity of a nonprofit and start a young person on a road to gaining skills for their career. This webinar will review how service year programs at nonprofits can help build organizational capacity through service positions that contribute to fund development, volunteer management, community outreach, etc. The webinar will also highlight how service programs help strengthen an organization’s ability to reach its goals and fulfill its mission over time.
