Research Challenge Boot Camp (Full Day)

Research Challenge Boot Camp - Saturday, September 8, 2018, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (8:30-9:00AM sign in, coffee & light snacks)

The first half of the Research Challenge Bootcamp will cover the rules, forms, deadlines, competition dates, etc.  The second half will be hands-on and active with participants learning what good protocol paperwork looks like, understanding how to do a thorough review & provide constructive feedback to students and working in small groups to review provided case study protocols.

This workshop includes training for schools that wish to field their own Scientific Review Committee (SRC)/Institutional Review Board (IRB) in order to be able to review student research protocols (human, microorganisms, hazardous "stuff") for approval PRIOR to the start of data collection as required in the Intel ISEF Rules for Pre-College Research.

CENTRAL NM REGION: Completion of either the in person or online course at least ONE committee member from each school wishing to field a local SRC/IRB at the Research Challenge Bootcamp is MANDATORY!!  Completion of either the in person or online course by at least ONE person from each school planning to send students to the Regional Research Challenge is also MANDATORY. The online course may be substituted for the face-to-face workshop. However, for those who have never attended the face-to-face Bootcamp, we highly recommend attending on-site at least the first time through as there tend to be a lot of questions that can be best answered in person.

Please bring your lunch as we will very likely take a short break, but then have a working lunch session in teams. Bottled water & light snacks will be available throughout the day.

This workshop is open to educators/competition coordinators from outside the Central NM SERC region. However, such participants will need to be aware they need to consult with their regional fair director for rules & deadlines specific to their regional competition.
