THERE IS STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR THE 2019 RESEARCH CHALLENGE BOOTCAMP!
The first half of the Research Challenge Bootcamp will cover the 2019-2020 rules, forms, deadlines, competition dates, etc. The second half will be hands-on and active with participants learning what good protocol paperwork looks like, understanding how to do a thorough review & provide constructive feedback to students and working in small groups to review provided case study protocols.
This workshop includes training for schools that wish to field their own Scientific Review Committe (SRC)/Institutional Review Board (IRB) in order to be able to review student research protocols (human, microorganisms, hazardous "stuff") for approval PRIOR to the start of data collection as required in the Intel ISEF Rules for Pre-College Research.
Attendance by at least ONE committee member from each school wishing to field a local SRC/IRB at the Research Challenge Bootcamp is MANDATORY!! This ONLY applies to the Central NM Region.
Please note that this is a FULL DAY workshop! We will begin promptly at 9:00am, so please plan to arrive between 8:30-8:50am to get signed in, grab some coffee & munchies, etc.
The workshop is being facilitated by Karen Kinsman, MS, PMP, Director & Erin Garcia, JD, Assistant Director of the UNM STEM-H Center.
BRAND NEW!!! We will also have current NM STEM educators facilitating a short section on aligning student project work to NM STEM-Ready Science and Common Core State Standards
Coffee, bottled water, and light snacks will be provided throughout the day. Light breakfast food and lunch will also be provided. We'll take a 30 minute lunch break and then dive right back into the workshop! A vegetarian option will be offered. Please indicate your dietary restrictions in the registration form and we will try to accommodate you. If we cannot accommodate particular food needs, we will communicate directly ahead of the workshop so anyone affected can plan accordingly.
