Our History

This unique timeline represents the history of the New Mexico Out-of-School Time Network

2004

The New Mexico Forum for Youth in Community was invited to launch a New Mexico Afterschool Alliance (NMASA) and become one of the national statewide afterschool networks efforts.

2010

New Mexico Afterschool Alliance (NMASA) moved to the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED). Under NMPED leadership, the alliance was restructured and revitalized. NMASA established a Leadership Council (LC) made up of 15 - 20 members.

2012

NMASA began hosting the Fall into Place conference to provide professional development for OST program staff and administrators around the state.

2016

NMASA changed its name to the New Mexico Out-of-School Time Network (NMOST) to better-reflect the work of its members, including before school, afterschool, youth and summer programming. NMOST transitioned from NMPED to Explora Science Center and Childrens’ Museum and hired our first Executive Director and part-time staff. This move allowed NMOST to become more active in advocating for OST policies, including enhancing quality of OST programs and increasing state funding for OST.

2016-2022

NMOST dramatically expanded programmatic activities and funding and transitioned to a new fiscal sponsor, the Center of Southwest Culture in
2021. This transition offered additional opportunities to work with the underserved communities in the state. We hired two new full- time staff members and expanded to provide technical assistance and youth entrepreneurship activities.

2023

NMOST achieved our 501(c)3 status. We are grateful for the support of the STEM Next Opportunity Fund and the NM Foundation and all our funders and partners supporting this transition. NMOST looks forward to the exciting opportunities ahead.
