In late May, NMOST visited H2 Academic Solutions in Belen for their end-of-year celebration and student showcase as part of their Young Entrepreneurs afterschool program. H2 received an Advancing Youth Entrepreneurship mini-grant from NMOST to support their continued partnership with VentureLab and to implement VentureLab’s Spark Mentorship program. The youth participants pitched their businesses and gave out samples or showed demos. The student businesses developed this school year included a musical artist who digitally creates her own melodies and beats and uses AI to sing her original songs, a jewelry artist who makes bespoke bracelets, two YouTubers – one making animated videos with her original characters that aim to address bullying and one making “How To” videos for younger children who are trying to get started in Minecraft, and a candle- and soap-making business. The students who developed Soothing Potions sold out when they took their candles and soaps to the local Hummingbird Festival in April! H2 will host their Young Entrepreneurs program again in the 2025-2026 school year and has plans to expand and integrate entrepreneurial learning into some of their other programs due to the positive youth response and interest. We are excited to see what the youth come up with next!
